APRIL 17, 2016 - FISH ARE FLYING OVER THE CASTLE!

Hey y'all! This week turned out to be absolutely, freaking fantastically wonderful!  Why you may ask?   Let's see just magical investigators, the best udon ever ( one of the top 15 in the world that cost like 12 bucks a bowl), our spirits our high! We served! We did ukulele dendo! Wow, so many Miracles! But also first let me just say that we are so sheltered/no connection to the news of the earthquake that hit the Fukuoka mission. We have been receiving aftershocks but we haven't felt too much. I'm so sorry to hear about those people but if you have any information please let me know!

Monday was a cry fest....ya that doesn't sound very happy but we did we have had a hard week before and we all got bad news or something of the like so we cried....but then we went shopping!!! Made our day better! Then we taught an awesome lesson at FHE and so we turned the chapel into a maze and related that to life and how we need to follow the spirit. There is a better explanation of that but there is no time to explain.

Tuesday! The first part of the day we woke up really early to go see the sunrise peak over the only mountain in our area called Sanuki Fuji. I got pictures! :) We also did....a service day...well everyday is a service day but today was specifically physical service. So we brought treats to peeps, wrote nice notes to them, and then we taught Yura like three lessons about the temple, baptism, and the word of wisdom...in that order. Yura is totally going to get baptized and is already saying, "When I get  baptized..." She's so cute I just love her! Also can I just say how much I love teaching English!  We talk about the strangest things...like toe socks and how healthy this man's farm is...he's totally hipster.

Wednesday we filled our days with magic! Or just a lot of people to visit! We have been so busy...even though they are just members we worked hard to fill our days with something. When we got to the church later that day we saw on our missionary email that we had a new referral!!! And guess what! he referred himself! We were so excited. It gave us his name, address, and all that jazz to go find him. So after five we went over and knocked on his door. To our surprise we met this Filipino kid named Jeff. We told him who we were and he was like wow that was really quick. He had signed himself up to meet the missionaries. His one friend asked him, why don't you give religion a try? So he did. Then we met him!

So when we first met, turns out that he already had 2 English Book of Mormons sitting in his apartment, he said it was here from the people before. We taught him about prayer and asked him to read the introduction of the Book of Mormon. We was really sweet and kind. We asked if we could pray with him and afterwards he said that felt really good like when we prayed we were actually talking with someone! It was so good. He was so interested in what we had to say and asked us if we could meet everyday! No...pandjwjdjsncjdkc of course you can!

After meeting with him, Gibson Shimai and I were in shock...we were bikuri shita 'd (surprised). We had to walk a little ways before we started shouting and dancing for some serious joy! We went back to the apartment because the other sisters were home sick and we immediately told them our good news! I'm pretty sure the sisters couldn't understand what we were talking about at first because we were just shouting like two crazies just out of the hospital. Anyway that was Wednesday. And it totally was a blessing from God.

This transfer was so rough people falling apart, no one to teach, hospital visits, crazy spainard drama, crisis of faith....but we pushed through, we gave it our best and let me just say since its been a week for me but two for you I loved elder Holland's talk when he talked about how God doesn't just reward the perfectly faithful, he cares and loves all of his children and for the best that they can preform. This line in particular,  "He will help you get back up. He will help you repent, repair, fix whatever you have to fix, and keep going. Soon enough you will have the success you seek." Meeting Jeff was the miracle of the transfer!

Thursday we played with the neighbor kids and it was so much fun! They always come, ring our door bell at dinner time and we go play jump rope or race each other or I blow bubbles :) then later that night we also went and taught kids eikaiwa! I love these kids because they are so sassy and smart! And I love making them laugh because Gibson and I are dancing to " The Wise Man Built His House Upon the Rock.

Friday was another good day.   We met this old man with purple lips....then we went to the park with my ukulele and first I played for this woman who I thought was young enough to be her grandson's mother, and this 2 year old.  He enjoyed the bubbles I had, like he screamed every time he saw them.

We passed by a hoard of middle school boys playing soccer.  We then we moved to a different part of the park just next to them and just sat in a field (this sounds so hippie of me.....oh well :) and I pulled out my ukulele and started singing. Slowly and at one at a time  a few boys came and sat down on the ground in front of me and listened to me play then all 23 of them!  I'm not even joking on how many. They just sat down and listened! They were so sweet! After I finished one song, they clapped and I was like I'll play one more okay and they all shouted okay! I sang and played the Jerusalem song, or viva la vida, and Gibson and I could see them whispering together and trying to figure something out. After I finished they clapped again and they tried to give me a 10¥ coin. It was so sweet. I kindly declined and then invited them to eikaiwa. Later on that day and during the week we would see these boys all on their bikes and they would shout to us all the English they know :)  If you know me that totally made my day :3

Later in the day we walked to Jeff's house and asked if he wanted to see the church. He's like sure I have nothing else better to do.  So we took him to the church and gave him a tour! It was awesome to see all the different rooms and explain what people do in them we showed him the font and such and this picture of Jesus. And that's when he says, "Oh Jesus visited the Americas right? I read that in that book you gave me!"

"So you got to read the introduction..."Gibson started to say. "Oh no I read up to that point in the book like Nephi 3 right?" It took all of my energy to not scream and jump up and down. "Wow..that's awesome," that's freaking insane, "how do you like it?" "It's like reading a Harry Potter book, if I get tired, I'll put it down and then I'll pray." I was so bikurishita'd. We took him then to the chapel and seriously the spirit was so thick when we walked in. It was like coming home and I knew he could feel it. He keeps telling us the more he talks to us the more interest he has! He asked if it was okay for him to come to church.

Saturday I died. Or I got a sinus infection with a massive headache...but that did not keep me from going to Sensei's, number 11 out of 15, of the best udon in the world! They are these thick noodles that are so yummy. You can put it in a soup or curry. I had it with curry. Way good. Member Brother Ikiechi, knows the owner who by the way wakes up at 5 every morning to hand make his noodles, and bought us some also they were having some conference there so we were the only people there to eat. We had the whole place to our selves. The people were so kind to us! That about sums up Saturday.

Sunday Jeff came to church! Yay!!! And stayed the whole time! In the third hour we taught him the whole Restoration and he said, that makes sense! And he wants to learn more and more! Turns out he knows, Kristen, an American member here from before and so she invited us all to her house for dinner later that night! He is so amazing, if I took the time to tell you how awesome this kid is it would take too long! I know how God feels!! He just wants us to come to learn to get excited about learning and finding truth!!! AHHHH WHAT JUST HAPPENED!?!?!

So that's my week...and today we are going to explore some ogre caves....we'll see how that goes!

My brothers and sisters, the first great commandment of all eternity is to love God with all of our heart, might, mind, and strength--that’s the first great commandment. But the first great truth of all eternity is that God loves us with all of His heart, might, mind, and strength. -Elder Holland

Love you all!

APRIL 10, 2016 - OLLO!

Ollo,

Let's see where do I start with this week, it's had its ups and downs.  We went to the castle to have lunch underneath the Sakura (cherry blossom) trees. They are so pretty! They always bloom the first of April and that whole week. The other sisters had to leave a little early for an appointment and so they walked back to where our bikes were. Like 5 minutes later I get this phone call, "Oswald Shimai come quick Giron Shimai fell!" Gibson sounds like she was freaking out so I assumed it was really bad. So us the elders, and the member that was with us all hurried back to where our bikes where and when we get there Gibson and Giron Shimai are on the ground laughing but Giron is obviously in pain. We are so confused. When they said what happened,Gibson pointed to her skirt and said, "a bird pooped on me! Again!" They were laughing so hard that Giron tripped and fell and screamed.

Oh man....

We also had Zone training meeting and Gosney Chōrō, an Elder I served with in Shimogamo gave his 'dying' testimony because he goes home at the end of this transfer. I loved working with him and his testimony was so powerful! He told us that how in the end he still gets a 'baptism' . His sister has been less active for a long time and now she's letting her 9 year old daughter be baptized and the best part about it is that his dad who wasn't able to baptize before can now and he gets to baptize her. Miracles happen!! It was so happy to hear!!

Let me tell you about Yura. I've talked about her before, she's the other sisters investigator and she wants to get married in the temple.  She was invited to come to general conference and she came!!!! And you know what?! every talk was flippin about temples!! It was so awesome!!  She loves to say I freaking love you. There is no doubt in my mind that she will be baptized. I'm so happy for her love for the temple and she's not even a member. She prays to her Heavenly Father and she knows he lives! It's amazing!

So last night we decided to rededicate our selves to the mission, to God and to the work. We had a big heart to heart chat that filled the room with the spirit. Afterwards we wrote down what we wanted to change about the mission, about our selves, etc. We all took those
things and went in other part of the apartment and prayed aloud by ourselves.  We then came together we prayed. The spirit was electrifying.  I could feel this light just engulf us. It was bright and it felt as if angels stood behind us watching over us. They loved us. I could
feel as if we had our family that has passed through the veil right there sending love beams our way. It was so peaceful.

I love you and will send pictures along with this.

Love with every fiber of my being!

APRIL 3, 2016 - MY NAME IS BOND, JAMES BOND

Hey y'all! Sorry it has been so long since I have written, my life has been upside down and I'm not even sure what has happened... I'm so sorry future self because I won't have these last few weeks documented.

Let's see....I live close to the beach now! I love it because I have so many sea shells now :) since coming to Marugame and I have developed a love more like obsession with flowers. There is a flower shop down the street and they are way cheep so the sister's apartment has at least 20 some odd number of pots of flowers....it's wonderful because flowers are so pretty! Also recently the Sakura have bloomed!! Wow! they are just gorgeous!! I have decided that the Sakura bloom because they know that Jesus Christ lives and they are showing their thanks and praise to him!

So on Easter Sunday we sang in church with our investigator. We sang I know that my redeemer lives in Japanese and English. The last verse was iwasaki San and me as a duet and it was sooo pretty. She was an opera singer when she was younger and her voice is so beautiful!!  She likes me a lot because I can do sarcasm with her :) I love her so much!!

Last week on Wednesday we took another adventure to the hospital! yAy!  Lucky it was not me this time :) Giron Shimai had an asthma attack. We had made our way over to the hospital around 9:30 at night and we were there till like 1 am. The elders came to see if we were okay and then they went home cause it was late. I was the communication between us
and Sister Welch, she said over the phone the next day that she wasglad that I was the sound mind in the chaos.   haha strange complement, but the fact that I've called president's wife that often for emergencies and such is kinda sad.  Everything turned out okay and but
me and the other two Sister Gibsons were up till like 2:30.

The next day because Giron wasn't allowed to bike we did splits and Iand the other sister Gibson went to go visit their investigator Yura. She is seriously the cutest thing in the world. She loves America! Like loves old classic movies and American 60s music. She taught her
self English by watching old movies. She is way good at English!  When we meet with her we help with her English and such. She will be going to Wyoming for school and so Gibson Shimai for the last few transfers has been helping her and slowly teaching her about the gospel. When I went with her last, we had been talking about how she wants to get married in the temple!  We talked about what the requirements are to be married there. She'll be staying with Gibson shimai's family in Utah and over the course of her knowing the missionaries she has come more and closer to the gospel there is no doubt in my mind that she will be baptized! She is so cute!!! We taught her how to hold hands it was way
cute. Sister Gibson and I demonstrated.

Our English class is huge and so we have lots of students who can speak a fair amount of English. This last time I brought my ukulele andstarted playing my jams (mash ups of hymns and such) and we taught actual lessons, which was awesome!!! Ukulele dendo! This one
student, literally out of no where whipped his guitar out and started playing. It was way cool. I love the people at eikaiwa because they are all very kind and can somewhat already speak English which is way cool.

Have you ever ridden a mama chari? Do you even know what it is? Let me tell you it's a bike that is not a mountain bike and it takes your whole flipping body to bike the thing. My knees have been destroyed from it. So I finally took in my bike to get the rim replaced...I've
been riding on it with a curved wheel (yes I know it's dangerous but walking was also tearing apart my knee) and in addition had to unclip the front brakes so that the wheel would move so it was pretty abunai (dangerous especially when certain Spanish missionaries cut in front of you because they are insane bike riders! ) anyway the store gave me a rental till mine was fixed.

We were biking to the train station one morning and it was raining and this rental bike has the worst brakes in the rain and so I was in the back, being me in my big blue jump suit called a capa (it's a pan cho). The sisters before me had stopped for the light and I was braking and Satan was like let's take out sister Oswald! So my tire spun and I slid, my side plummeting to the earth! But Jesus was like I got this and I slid like I was in a movie, coming from out underneath a truck or something and I was quickly up and standing like a boss. Not today Satan!

In other news we had interviews with our mission president. It was good. I love president and sister Welch. So flippin much! The are no substitute for my own parents but there are very much like my mom and dad. I love when they hug me because even though my parents can't they do it for them. Also we did service for a sister in our ward where we
cleaned out her house....I felt like we were on certain TLC TV show for cleaning out messy houses....it was fun and kinda scary.

As always in the apartment we jam out and are having to much fun! We teach when we can and meet the craziest people! I love all of you and I can't wait to give you big hugs!

MARCH 27, 2016 - JUST PICS THIS WEEK

ME AND GIBBY, MY COMPANION

WAKAUMI CHORO (HIS NAME MEANS YOUNG OCEAN)

DALE

MEMBERS AND ZONE LEADERS

THE MOON, BETTER IN PERSON

MARCH 20 - ALOHA!

I now live on an island called Shikoku, my area is Marugame. Right now we have four sisters and two elders who are the Zone/district leaders.  My companion and I are "opening " this area so we have no area book or investigators yet....well we did meet this crazy guy that wouldn't stop calling us but....we got over that.

This is who I live with:   First there is Kate Gibson, my wonderful companion! She is so sweet and kind and I love her to pieces!!  She always makes funny faces and loves dinosaurs!!  She is so pretty and loves to smile! She is on n her 6th transfer, my senpai, and she and I together are opening this new area for a second pair of sisters, in Marugame. It's a struggle with out bikes right now but it's all good we get to talk to more people that way!

Next is Giron Shimai, she is from Spain. She is crazy and I love her!  She is very European, though..she is crazy good at English and Japanese and she learned them both in the MTC her two months there.O.o  She is a third transfer and we've already had some funny times with her.

Then there is Alec Gibson, the second Gibson! she is way cool! She's the oldest missionary out of all of us but she is so amazing! She is the glue to our quartet!  She is too funny and gives amazing hugs!

The four of us are having way to much fun together! The nights are crazy because we talk and do weird things, talk about dreams and just laugh!

We met this really Genki old woman the other day together! We were walking back to the apartment from district meeting and then we pass this house where this old woman was looking out her window and she saw us and started to wave at us, so we waved back. We walked farther past her house and then were like, let's go back and sing her a song or
something. When we turned around she was already there!! We talked with her for a moment and she hugged us first and it was insane!  She kept poking at our chests saying something about our hearts and such but I have no idea...because obachan Ben or old lady speech is really, really, really hard to understand and almost impossible to understand.  She would hit us on the shoulder and say something then laugh and so we laughed with her. She was way cute!!  Then we visited her again later on in the week and she was saying something about us being cute and next thing I know my face has been slapped and I have two old lady hands cuddling my face!  It was quite surprising and and also terrifying.  I wish I had this on video because it was this old woman straight out of a movie or something.

So we live right next door to a castle and it is called Marugame Jo and there is a park all around it and so we go running and finding over there all the time.  So far most of our new investigators have come from meeting them at the castle.  The castle here is set up on a hill and it is so amazing to look and see all the lights of Marugame at night. The castle is also covered with cherry blossom trees and they are about to bloom soon so the whole castle will be magical!!

We have a Kids eikaiwa and it is so much fun because I love children.

Our Dendo shunin, ward mission leader, is brother Ellis Kyodai. He is an American so DCS is nice because I get to get advice and I understand what the heck he is saying.  The ward is also so kind!  There are CHILDREN!!!! And they love the missionaries!! So I have aquired 6 new small friends!

So there is a family in the ward, Borianna and Keita, who went to BYU Hawaii.  As soon as they found out that I also went there we talked for forever about the people we both knew and our love for Hawaii!  They have three boys and they are half Japanese and half Bulgarian and they are adorable.  We are going to the beach with them today.

It has become apparent to me that every single thing in this world is related to Christ and his Atonement. Everything!  Now that seems pretty deep, pretty heavy in and in Japanese, pretty atsui (hot). Let me share an experience I had a few days ago. Gibby and I went and ran up to the top of the castle one night for our dinner hour.  Getting to the top of the castle required extreme amount of effort because the ground was wet and the slope steep. When we got to the top my lungs hurt but when you looked over the edge you could see all the thousands of lights that were beneath us.

The castle has a big white light shining on it making it a beacon for the city.  Where ever we are, if I can see the castle then I can always find my way home.  My companion and I stood at the top.  I told her, that every light is like our own light or the small light that we are able to see around us.  It's hard to see the lights of those around us unless we look from a higher plane.  That higher plane is where we were on the castle or us as missionaries. As missionaries we see and look at others in a different light, we can see their light their potential, and see what they could achieve.  We look at them through heavens eyes. The castle is like Jesus Christ.  On the ground in your small street light you can't see much else but if you look towards Christ then you can make it back to him no matter how dark or unknown the path may be as long as he is in your sights. Once we have returned to him we are able to see the thousands of lights and paths and will be able to understand the light of others around us.

So my vocal explaination is ten times better but this will have to do!
I love you all!!!!!

Yours truly,

Oswald Shimai
